    Althea Flynt

    http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg...e=gr&GRid=9575

ustler KingPin Larry Flynt's wife. She died of AIDS in the late 80's, Larry found her dead in their bathtub.

I think Courtney Love's portrayal of her was incredible. I can't find many pictures of her out there though? I know she was absolutely gorgeous when he married her, but then after she got addicted, she turned all weird like on the YouTube video for Larry's presidential campaign.

Her story was truely the saddest I have ever read. I am surprised she lasted as long as she did.

I also thought Courtney did a bang up job in that role.

Seeing her in the role of Althea, and how well she did, makes me think how good she could've done Nancy Spungen instead of the bit part she got.

Yes she was made for that role, I actually thought she was up for it? Was she considered for it at one point? Thought I read that somewhere....

Yes, she tried desperately for it, but if I remember right, they wanted someone with a "name" to play her. Chloe did a great job, especially the annoying voice/fake accent, but I think Courtney could've done her more justice.

I've searched and searched for more pictures of Althea but haven't found but a couple online.
Along with the rest of you, I honestly gave kudos to Courtney over that role. She was fantastic.
As wild and crazy of a relationship as Larry & Althea had, you know they truly loved each other, and I have a deep, heartfelt respect for that.

Speaking about Larry Flynt, is it true one can't buy a copy of Hustler in Cincinatti even today?

Yet I believe not only is Flynt from that region but I believe Hustler got its start in Cincinatti.

Don't you think his bid for prez would have been more successful if he'd done something catchy like, "Larry Flynt for Presidynt!"

That kind of cuteness just demands a vote!!

Good god, while that was playing I was trying like hell to remember how she lost her left arm... oops! Just a long black glove!

Hamilton County, Ohio...has pretty strict pornography laws...that is the county the City of Cincinnati is in...however, it is a short drive to the burbs and anything is available, including a Hustler store about 20 mins. away...

Please listen to some lovely hold music of your choice while I look.

Thanks SomeChick! Larry is painful to watch, speaking wise, I mean.

Did he really have sex with chickens when he was growing up, or is that an urban legend?

I know his family ran moonshine and he grew up dirt poor.

Courtney looked really pretty in the beginning of the movie. And she looked like Althea did at the end. This is a good link:

    And here are some pictures:

That was an awesome link ~ Thank You for posting.

To see how beautiful and articulate she was in the first 30 seconds then cut to the skinny, lost person in the last 30 really shows how drugs can change everything about you. I would have never recognized her if I wouldn't have know it was about her.

The People Vs. Larry Flynt is one of my favorite movies - loved Althea's character. Such a sad story and she was so beautiful! They were perfect for each other it seemed.

Shejay: "Has Flynt ever married again?"
Flynt married once more, to Elizabeth Berrios, but still states to this day that Althea remains the 'love of his lifetime', and that she always would be so. This was stated in his 2008 documentary Larry Flynt: The Right to Be Left Alone. IFC re-aired it just short weeks ago.

Stacebabe: "Seeing her in the role of Althea, and how well she did, makes me think how good she could've done Nancy Spungen instead of the bit part she got."
The director did consider her, although her attitude didn't help her; she came in for one audition dressed as Nancy, and screamed at them "I AM Nancy Spungen!" in a threatening manner. But at that time Love had too little screen experience, so they went with Chloe instead. Many who personally knew the real Nancy commented that Chloe's "Nancy" was so much like the real Nancy -- right down to her annoying voice, nagging, and screeching -- that it was literally an 'eerie' impression of Spungen.

I too think that Love was great as Althea, but if you listen to her comments voiced over the movie, prepare to hear her drift off in mid-sentence too many times to count, and the other half of her comments were based on how thin she looked onscreen. "Oh my God, I can't believe how skinny I am in this film! Man, I look FANTASTIC!" Other critics have noted that she really portrayed herself rather than Althea, even with Flynt's input during the filming. But I thought she was awesome as Althea.

Motherogod: "Don't you think his bid for prez would have been more successful if he'd done something catchy like, "Larry Flynt for Presidynt!"
That kind of cuteness just demands a vote!!"
In that election, Flynt came in at #7 in a voter field of 54 candidates. Considering his background, that's a pretty high ranking!

CathyJ: "Yet I believe not only is Flynt from that region but I believe Hustler got its start in Cincinatti."
Flynt was born and raised in Margoffin County, Kentucky, and claimed Magoffin County was the poorest county in the nation during the Great Depression (yet Larry's been known to exaggerate in the past).

Lisalouver: "Did'nt or does'nt Larry have a gold wheelchair?"
Actually it was just gold-plated, which can vary in both the thickness and gold value (14K to 23K -- 23K is highest for plating purposes due to the malleability of the metal).

Lisalouver: "Did he really have sex with chickens when he was growing up, or is that an urban legend?"
He still claims this, but again, that may be Larry 'embellishing' his past again.

I know his family ran moonshine and he grew up dirt poor."
Well, Flynt's father did a majority of making the 'shine, while Larry and his younger brother distributed. However Larry often fumed about his father drinking up the profits. One time when they got into yet another fight about it, Larry smashed his dad's face with a moonshine jar. That was confirmed by family members.

mac_lorre: "There's a Hustler store right in downtown Cincinnati."
    According to Wiki, that's correct.

Althea looked poised in her pictures and Courtney portrayed her as a junkie whore. I'm sure that's how she acted when married to Kurt Cobain - no wonder he's gone!

I remember reading a certain article which stated she was a regular at the apartment Motley Crue shared before they became hugely famous. She supposedly did drugs with and often invited the band to the Hustler mansion to party.

Also one of my favourite films- I did get the impression that CL was largely playing herself but then she's such a total drama queen that it was the role of a lifetime for her, authentic or not
