Yep, the Sid and Nancy murders or whatever happened. (another discussion) are what helped me decide to start saving pics and make a scrapbook of my death hag habits.

The place looks very well up kept from the road but once you get in and go towards the back you can tell the place isn't well cared for. The name of the place is King David.
I know one rumore is Sids mom jumped wall to scatter his ashes... THERE IS NO WALL! LOL You could drive a semi into the place with out using the driveway. Where I Lived Nancy was a "Local gal"..The resurant where her mom was having the affair was 1 block from my apartment. The resturant is no longer there but there is a gas station that uses a model airplane from the resturant.

Nancys Grave..

I am reading a book right now, only three years old, that is spouting that old "jumped the fence and scattered the ashes" thing.
This goes a step farther tho and "claims" Sids mom was with some other people, went to the graveyard, and was "escorted" by a guard, thereby making it impossible to scatter the ashes of Sid, which caused her to then jump the fence and do it when nobody was looking.
It isn't a very good book, but I do have one question...could there have been a fence almost 30 years ago? I dont believe the "scatter" theory, or the "ashes floating thru the vents at Heathrow airport" idea, but I am curious about the possibility of a fence long ago....

I'm reading the book written by her mother right now (And I Don't Want to Live This Life) - good stuff. The poor family, Nancy put them thru a living hell - all the way from birth!

Beverly also scored some heroin for Sid. when he got the packet of junk from his mom, he injected a pretty good amount, and due to his not having any in months while he was locked up...he OD's on the spot. he was revived and ate a spaghetti dinner with his mom and friends/hanger on's. later Sid nodded out, common among junkies, and was put in his bedroom on the bed by his mom and girlfriend. Beverly, scared that Sid may OD again, put the heroin in her back pocket for safe keeping. later on in the night Sid awoke, and took the heroin from her pocket as she slept on the couch. Sid went into his room and shot the rest up...and OD'd again. he was found the next morning naked on the bed...dead. he was awaiting trial for Nancy's murder at the time of his death. Sid wanted to be buried next to Nancy, but her family refused to give up any information on her final resting place. which is in a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia, her home town. Sid's ashes were NEVER scattered over her grave. Sid NEVER had a sister (he was an only child). and Sid's mom NEVER injected the fatal dose of heroin into her son's arm. being not only a punk rock fan, but also a music historian, you can rest assured that these ARE the facts. I have read some 10-15 books on Sid's life and death. as well as Deborah Spungen's (Nancy's mom) book And I Don't Want To Live This Life Anymore. the facts are in these books, and in the interviews that were conducted while Sid's mom was still alive. room 100 of the Chelsea was taken out, and made into a larger version of the lobby for the hotel. maybe due to the sick fascination of people like myself? who knows. there was a rumor that Sid's urn was dropped in JFK airport by his mom, and his ashes blown across the place (Beverly never confirmed or denied this). if this is true, it's a fitting end to a fucked up life. those are the facts people. don't believe all the urban legends that people made up about Sid and Nancy. truth be told, they were human...just like you and I. let's not glorify the tragedy by making it out to be something it's not.
Thanks for all that cool info Chris...you have made me very interested in reading a book or two about his life......any you would recommend???

that would be the coolest~ i have to say this, chloe webb, was hidious looking in the movie, tho from what i have read, she hit nancy's mannerism's on the head~ when you see pix of the real nancy, even when she is slathered in make-up, she is much prettier~ i am also guilty of reading her mom's book about nancy's life about 10 times, i get it out every so often & re-read it~ i always felt badly for her that even in death, she was a joke to some, even johnny carson made a nauseating nancy joke about her in reference to her death~

With the rights meds, I think Nancy may had been able to function as a normal humna being. Apparently from birth, she was pretty hostile and loud - like she was depicted in the movie.

Deborah Spungen's book is amazing. I read it for the first time when I was a young teenager, and again recently as a now mother and 30 something year old woman. It made the story all that much more tragic.

Did you read her mother's book? It appears to me she was sort of destined to be with "the wrong people". Back then, they had no real, effective treatment for people like her. Nor did they release her schitzophrenic diagnosis to her parents until after her death, so they never could treat her properly. I'm not convinced she would've turned out differently, Sid or no Sid.

That's the general consensus I get from reading the book (I'm about half-way thru it right now). I think
Nancy was Schizo and probably bi-polar and I bet if she was on the right meds - she wwould have lived a normal life (or somewhat of one!).

Apparently she knew she was going to die young and even said she knew she would die a famous death in the headlines. She told her mother that about 4 years before she died.

I found it interesting that she was buried in her prom dress - a lime green slinky thing - with a bare midriff. Weird - since she was stabbed in the stomach! I wonder if that scar/wound was showing - that's IF they had an open casket viewing.

I've just rec'd and started reading "12 Days" - LOVING it...it's nice to get this kind of "background" info contained in this book - gotta admit, I love the horror show quality to the whole Sid/Nancy story, but I want the WHOLE picture, ya know?

Anyhoo, you are the shaznazzle, Chris, for the suggestion

Can any of you Sid & Nancy fans recommend a book to me that really details thier relationship? I know there are a lot of books out there about Sid and the Sex Pistols - but what about one that mostly or mainly talks about Sid & Nancy?

Thanks!

why thank you. although THAT book doesn't have much info on Nancy herself, it gives you a GOOD idea of what was happeing with Sid. it gets pretty graphic at some points...he was a mess. the other book is crammed with shit I never knew about Sid and Nancy. so, it's a good starting point to other books. and this is first hand stuff. not some gossip and urban legends that others believe to be true. so, ENJOY!!

If you read the mom's book, with whatever grain of salt it should be taken with, it does sound like she was out of control from Day 1. And, it sounds like they did do what they could to help her. And, "mom" even admitted some of her own faults, (infidelity, etc.). Regardless, it is a very sad story.

The problem is, they never gave the parents the correct diagnosis, and the meds weren't as common then as they are now. The parents didn't find anything out until after her death. She stated she wanted to kill herself at 11 years old.

They had a closed casket funeral, but the immediate family viewed her.

Deborah was very candid in her book. I admire her for that. The love/hate relationship. I can understand it now. Especially if you've gone to the ends of the earth to help, and nothing worked, and only her removal could salvage the other two. What a sad place to be in. Worse, to find out your feelings were vindicated with a diagnosis, but only AFTER death?

Maybe -- if meds were as popular then as they were now. She died in the 70's, it was still an era of "mental illness? bah!" Plus, the diagnosis was never shared with her parents until after she died.

He doesn't facinate me as much now as he did in my teens. I think he was a dim-witted guy, who happened to be at the right place at the right time. Though, knowing what I've read about Nancy, I don't think Sid killed her out of malice, again, because of his dim wittedness, I think he killed her because she prodded him to do so.

I can't put my finger on it but he sure has that "sumpthin' sumpthin'".

I really admire how candid Deborah was in her book.

That's fair but his life and attitude and look fascinate me.
The guy is the undisputed king of punk (talent or importance not withstanding).

I found a rare NYC public access TV interview with Sid and Nancy from shortly before Nancy's death on YouTube.

Every time I see Sid, I wonder whatever happened to that chain and lock he always wore around his neck?
I'd love to be able to see it.

his mom had the chain and lock until she died in a glass display box. i'm not sure what happened to it after she died though. but I DID hear that the one Gary Oldman wore in the Sid & Nancy movie was Sid's real lock and chain.

How cool would it be to own that lock and chain? I'd love to own anything Sid had.
Remember John Lydon's tv show in the '90's "Rotten TV"? Well Johnny had punk clothes from the '70's on a mannequin and he said they were "Sidney's clothes" and he put a note Sid wrote once (Lydon said it was an original) and he put the note on the mannequin and put the mannequin in an open field and then he got in a tank and fired a round at the mannequin completely destroying everything.
Lydon/Rotten looked into the camera in that classic Rotten sneer and says "Poor Sidney".

I do remember Johnny doing that on his TV show. and I remember thinking it was in bad taste...but then again, most everything Johnny does is in bad taste.
