I don't get how people are mad at Dick Clark for being tight with his money. Ed McMahan made a lot of money in his lifetime too and he died broke. We criticized these people for being stupid with their money and for being tight. I just guess you can't win.

He had a TURP the day before his death. At his age and in his condition I am surprised they did it.

Its an elective surgery usually done for urine rentention (due to an enlarged prostate)

I hated it that most people (if not everyone) lip synced on his show. On the up side, I really enjoyed New Year's Rocking Eve because that year I had just lost my father, and it was a nice distraction for me. I admit I've watched it every year since.

Dick Clark was cremated and his ashes will be spread over the ocean. I haven't heard of any public memorials. There should be.

Dick Clark the CEO of his establishments the State of Michigan
gave him huge tax breaks if he took people on welfare.
(who were mostly single Mothers) as slave workers.

So when Michael Moore tries to ask him about the shooting
in Flint Dick Clark gets all nasty about it and than slammed
his Limousine door.

So the very rich get tax breaks and damn everybody else
and this awful shooting would never have happened but only
because rich people get tax breaks while hurting the very poor.

This is a movie by Michael Moore......I'm sure it was all fact based......Michael Moore would never do anything unfactual to cause a little controversy or put a little scratch in his pocket. Another liberal making money off lies.

Saw somebody say dick was cheap...true he was. I worked for him 14 years. When he sold the company not one dime to ANY of the people who had worked for him many years. Some lost their homes as a result of the sale, but dick had $$$ in his eyes. When he realized he had lost his empire he tried suing his attorneys. His business image was different from the TV image which in turn was different from how he talked to everyday people who worked for him.

And Dick was expected to support all his employees the rest of his life? He sold the business. What did the new owners do to help those employees? NOTHING? But that didn't matter because the new owner wasn't a celebrity?

Well, some media hack reported it as true. IIRC now, it stated that the reason she made them was--not to be cheap--but because Dick like the feel of the sheet material. It was waaay back many moons ago when I read it. I don't even know where I read it.

I don't doubt it, just stating a possible source as Benny was doing that schtick 20 years before Clark. It's possible that the joke was written however because someone did or was rumored to wear sheet shirts.

I don't get the blame Dick thing....Dick was a legend for any of those that watched him on a regular basis on Bandstand...He was great as a game show host...So he was smart with his money, most from his era could not say the same. Bless Dick Clark...perhaps the day he had his stroke was the day the music died. His show introduced us to music and dances we may have never known....

Kari did Dick's personal stuff 99% of the time not really contributing to the business, and laughed when their dogs stole your food from off your desk. Dick frowned and Kari laughed again when their dogs krapped all over the hallways. No problem...send a runner to wipe/clean it up.

Although he may have in distant past, Dick DID NOT live in Encino...he lived on PCH in Malibu. All you can see on way to Zuma is a wrought iron gate which opened to a winding road down to the house, I know I was there many times.

Ideally, we all speculated Dick would hand his empire over to Cindy to handle business side and RAC to the creative side...but alas Dick was the ideal miser keeping soap shards in a tin box. He trusted nobody to run his empire, so just like the devil character on your shoulder FL kept coaxing Dick to do it as FL (a truly evil SOB) went Judas on him so Dick merged his company with 2 others to maintain control. Only one problem...someone hands you millions of dollars you don't get to keep that control. He drank and ranted his way to the stroke after he found out he couldn't have it his way any more being a "co-regent" not king. True, other company still in Hollywood and are truly evil bastards hated universally in the entertainment world. Several of the biggest producers and directors in lala land warned him of this other company, but Dick was also an arrogant person thinking his solution always the only solution. Many suffered because of this "merger" (with questionable circumstances) as it hit just prior to economy dump in '07-'08 some losing homes.

Recently I was at a dick clark reunion picnic where we all payed tribute and Dick did deserve many of the positive things said, but in the end, arrogance and greed...especially greed is what brought him to a screeching halt. 6 months to the day after Dick's stroke, I accidentally saw the letter firing him from his own company saying he was too incapicated on JH's desk.

There's more, too much for this blog, and while dc did do some good things, I always felt it sometimes more for appearances rather than truly from the heart, but people need to know he was not really all that "apple pie" in his later years. The documentary "Columbine" was not terribly far from the truth unfortunately.

For some reason I had always thought that Dick Clark HATED The Flinstones and yet he had lived in a house like this ?? My aunt when she had passed on ( 1982 ) had left a collection of old Radio-TV Mirror magazines. In one issue they did a feature on "Shindig" with an interview with Jimmy O'Neill and they had brought up the Flintsones and the "ShinROCK" episode. I remember the question was asked something like "why YOU and not Dick Clark ??" since Shindig wasn't seen in many parts of the country unlike AB. Jimmy as I can recall had said something like that Dick hated the show and felt The Flinstones like all cartoons were stupid and a waste of time and would not consider doing a voice for one...OK granted its been close to 30 years since I had read that article I am sure that I had left something out.

Considering that Dick Clark in his later years had done episodes of The Family Guy and The Simpsons, maybe had developed feelings towards the Flintstones.

FL was Fran LaMaina...HE wanted to retire but Dick didn't, wouldn't. FL knew though that if he could coax Dick into selling company to MM...Mosaic Media...FL would get his millions from the sale as he Fran owned a piece of the company. Finally DC agreed when it was pointed out that he Dick would get mega-millions AND, in DC's mind, would still get to control what would be left of dcpi. Enter JH...Jules Haimovitz...or as he's known be his friends, the AntiChrist. Jules is the quintessential evil bastard and perhaps the only person who ever lived greedier than DC. JH is a short, angry, hateful little man and cutivated same especially with his secretary who also cultivated anger and hostility. JH facilitated the "merger" between MM and dcpi. JH and DC did not get along. Imagine walking down the hallways and having to listen to millionaires scream obsenities at each other like Jr. High kids who've fully embraced the joy of crack. JH was evil pure and simple. He NEVER smiled or said a kind word to anyone and absolutely hated all DC's employees because they were a link to DC. When JH pushed MM to bring what was left of dcpi to Sunset and Doheny, all DC's remaining employees were treated as sub-serviant slaves and without question talked down to so they would quit. Anyway shortly after the "merger", one of the partners in the merger pulled out giving control to MM. DC, vigourusly hated by JH, realized he'd lost control and started drinking heavily and had a stroke. 6 months to the very day of the stroke JH fired DC from dcpi....Dick became a contract player in his own company. Dick had nothing against RS...Ryan Seacrest..., but fought RS taking over NYRE hosting because JH wanted to force DC to it. Finally DC thru in the towel as long as he could host NYRE and have some creative input on the AMA's...his own creation. I told DC once to call it a day and go fishing, but stubborn as DC was he refused. He had mellowed quite a bit after the stroke realizing his career was on its last wobbly legs.

As stated previously...there was good in Dick but it always seemed to be as a front or to garnish that all American image. Had DC surrendered that empire to his children, we'd all still be there and Dick's image would still be golden....but greed corrupts.
