"Girls aren't building space shuttles, they're getting their nails done."
What is the big gawddamn deal? We can do both. Or are parents not teaching their children that anymore because some new toy comes out?

The sad fact of the matter is that we're going so far backwards that in another 50 years we'll be back in the beauty parlor.

I can't read the link so I can't comment. What the feck did they do, color them pink?

That was my guess too before reading the story. But no, what Lego has done is created a girl figure, instead of them all being those androgynous things that would ride in the little cars and such kids built from Legos. And one of the playsets features a kitchen, ala Barbie's Dream Kitchen or any of the other hundreds of examples of companies that sell such products.

The feminists say it's bad for a little girl's self image. Psychologists say there is a difference in gender predisposition being the real dictator of what children want when it comes to toys.

I don't think either of the above is an absolute. And I know children go through phases. So to me, either side arguing about absolutes when it comes to something like this is forgetting the individual. At the bottom line I think people should remember that when children play with toys, they decide what the toy should do, not the other way around.

"They have little breasts and they have fancy hair," the organization's executive director, Dana Edell, told FoxNews.com. "And it just disturbs us that this is the image that they want girls to see."

Edell also objects to what she calls stereotyping of preferred pastimes for girls.
"What it's doing is telling girls that this is what's important to you," Edell said of the beauty parlor and hot tub sets. "Girls aren't building space shuttles, they're getting their nails done."

Soo....it's wrong for girls to get their nails done? And have breasts and cute hair? I'm all for women's rights but I actually like getting my nails done. Oh, and I have breasts and cute hair. Is that really a bad thing? Sheesh.

    Ohgivemeaneffinbreak!!!!!!

Do any of these people who are protesting realize cooking is one of the biggest and hottest businesses right now??

Fancy hair and little breasts. DUH! It's called growing up, you morons.

It seems if girls aren't interested in technology, big business, and sciences these days they are considered losers. There is a big gap between a female wanting to paint her nails and acting like "Toe Teat Tessie" over on t'other thread.

Gawd, this makes me furious. Let girls decide for themselves what they like and then support them.

I feel like going out and buying that Lego set.

I played with Barbie Dolls when I was a kid (for the short time before my brother decapitated them with Grandpa's skill saw). I grew up to learn how to weld, got a university education in political science and now I do retail Marketing. Playing with something with boobs did not relegate me to the manicurist's chair.

Anyone else notice that the kids seem to be smarter than the adults now?

For fucks sake. How did we girls survive Barbie? Children are starving, being raped, and murdered, and those whack jobs are complaining about female Legos? Gimme a break!

I agree with you, Cindy. Let's worry more about THAT than what girls are playing with. I am teaching MY daughter that growing up, having breasts and cute hair is NOT a bad thing and she can be anything she wants to be. ANYTHING.

I would like to ask all the critics of this Lego set to explain why it is okay to support females in their wishes to be an engineer or an astronaut but it is not okay to support them if they want to be a beautician or a a chef.

And where the eff were they when they should have been championing boy's rights to want to be dress designers and child care workers? Was it A-okay for males to be drowned in a sea of weapons and "manly" pursuits?

Oh. My. God. What petty bullshit. They don't have enough girl bias toys, people bitch. They make girl bias toys, people bitch. Please. Why doesn't these freaks go after, say MTV for 16 and pregnant? There are waaayyy more important causes they need to focus their attention on rather than damn LEGO'S.

LMAO I love that idea pwem. I didn't even think about that. It could also come with a goulish looking LEGO corpse. These femenazis are NEVER happy. They're always bitching about something. They just need to take a chill pill.

My granddaughter and I build spectacular lavender and pink houses out of Mega Blocks and then knock them down with her little brother's dump trunk. The feminists can kiss both of our asses.

When I was a kid I had Lego. The thing is that they came in plastic bricks of varying colours and sizes, that's it! You had to use your imagination to create something. Now the trend is that they come in kits and you follow a set of instructions to complete a pre-designed item. Somewhere along the line they dumbed down the creativity aspect of it.

I am not too upset they created a line for girls, they are trying to cater to all markets. Anyway, it's up to the kid what they want to play with. If when in the shop, the girls want it, they will tell their mom to buy it. If they get it as a gift they will simply play or not play with it. The choice is ultimately theirs.

I'm not upset about it, either. Here in the States where I am, they sell different kinds of Lego sets. You have your themed sets, with directions to make a pre-designed item in a Star Wars, Harry Potter, or other theme. I see those as challenges for older kids, like kids my son's age. Then there's "regular" Legos, or original sets of bricks that you use your imagination to build whatever you want. They also have the bricks for toddlers and those come in "regular" sets.

Is it a coincidence that pornography, war and violence have run rampant since 1910 (on a previously unseen world scale)? Roughly when the Suffrage movement was reaching its peak? I am not stating this as my opinion but as an introductory statement in a community discussion.

What pros have come out of women being able to freely manipulate men? I agree that the abuse directed towards them was unacceptable but where is the line drawn?

At what time would you say women started crossing the line like men had in the past and completely changed the face and course of humanity? Or did they?

I hope we can have a peaceful, non aggressive discussion about this in the significantly deemed and related thread of its placing.

So first you make a blanket statement

You have GOT to be kidding, freely manipulate men??? WTF is this?? 1860? No bias on your part and then you say

Well first lemme just tackle that opening sentence. Porn, war, and violence just sorta exploded in 1910? I have some recommendations on good history books if you are interested.

The rest of the post? I don't know where to begin.

What you are doing is taking the comment and doubling the number of places it is written. Then someone else sees it and quotes it and now you have the offending comment in three times as many places as it was originally. And so on.

And the more something is repeated, the more it sinks in. So if someone writes, "All Greek men are slimy criminals," and you are a Greek man that takes offense, almost all you are accomplishing by quoting the remark is legitimizing it. And the more ridiculous the original comment, the less helpful it is to quote it.

If someone says an individual deserved a disease and you quote him, to me, as an administrator, you are lending some level of support to his view because you are repeating it and reinforcing it in the minds of readers that otherwise would have just skipped past it or who had a hard enough time reading it in the first place and would rather not see it dredged up again.

Do not quote posts that break forum rules.
