    Otto Warmbier 1994-2017

American college student Otto Warmbier only intended to spend five days sightseeing in North Korea in 2016.

Instead, he spent 17 months there in detention where his family believes he was tortured into a coma.
On Monday, less than a week after returning to the United States with severe brain damage, his family announced Warmbier had "completed his journey home." The 22-year-old died Monday afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio, with his family at his side.

This is so awful. Can you imagine what President Trump is cooking up in his mind right now?

I'm baffled as to why they're nixing the autopsy.

Maybe they didn't want an autopsy for religious reasons? Some people just don't like the idea of that being done to their loved one. If it were my kid I'd sure want one.

This story reminds me of the movie Return to Paradise with Anne Heche and Joaquin Phoenix.

If it were my son I'd want to know what the hell they did to him and not let North Korea sweep it under the rug like other things.

I wonder if the Warmbiers were threatened / intimidated (as in, "I HOPE you won't have that autopsy") / paid off , whether by NK or the US government, or both, to not pursue any further line of inquiry.

15-year sentence at hard labor is pretty extreme just for tearing down a banner at his hotel. An Israeli blogger, Gilad Atzmon, pointed out Warmbier was in Israel just before he went to N. Korea and may have been an Israeli spy, which is something the regime would look down on and would be more in line with a harsh 15-year sentence. Plus N. Korea and Israel do not "get along".

There is just so much weird and awful here. What was he doing knocking about North Korea? What exactly did they do to him? I think this is alien to us all. Not many of us hags would (1) Visit North Korea to start with and (2) swipe something once we got there.
