Of all the candles shown in the pic only two (the ones on the right atop the bureau) are lit. Why those and not any others?

Can't remember if I posted this or not...going through my photobucket crap. This was 3 years ago. The rifle is a BAR. Sumbitch was still warm and smoking from being used in a WWII reenactment. I asked the guy how heavy it was, and he just handed it to me.

Browning Automatic Rifle, or M1918. Fully automatic, 30.06 round, about 500 rounds per minute. It was a product of WWI, but was used all the way up to Vietnam. This one is an M1918A2 I'm guessing, because of the front mounted tripod. I would doubt this one was used in the war, looks too new. It is possible though. Definitely not a replica. During WWII, these were built by IBM, in typewriter factories.
It was also the favorite weapon of Clyde Barrow!
I think the official American GI-issued were all .30-06. I know a lot were sold to other countries. If I remember right, there was at least a British .303 version, and there was some kind of contract with Mauser in the 20's.
Yes, I remember that. Not for sure where my keys are...

I know we're going way OT here, but this is a really fascinating (if somewhat long, at six and a half minutes) video aboiut the BAR, and especially about its role in the Congressional Medal of Honour (sorry...I guess that should be Honor, in this case) won by a GI named Charles "Commando" Kelly in Italy in WWII. He was a former Pittsburgh gangmember who knew just how to use this weapon...

I'm a HUGE WWII buff and I'm a bit embarassed that I ddin't know about this weapon, or this GI.
BTW, for those who saw Saving Private Ryan, this video's section about Kelly will also explain one of the improvised grenades they used in the final scenes.
