I always find the comparison pictures fascinating. I look at two things 1) the attractiveness - some of these people have retained it, while others have lost it and 2) the look of healthiness. Some of these people still have such a healthy glow, while others look like heredity/fate-fortune/lifestyle have taken a toll.

She does! The short, spiky gray hair becomes her. I love that some women aren't afraid to go gray. I've always loved her. She has a small-ish role in "Singin' In The Rain", one of my favorite movies. She's kind of unrecognizable in it. She was great in The Four Seasons, with Alan Alda and Carol Burnett.

STROLL was on several episodes of THE TWILLIGHT ZONE.
This shot is from The Eye Of The Beholder
in which an unfortunately homely woman undergoes a last chance operation to hopefully improve her appearance. At the episode's climax the woman's bandages are removed to reveal that she is still doomed, her looks unchanged. The irony was that the 'cursed' woman was played by DONNA DOUGLAS (BH' Ellie Mae). In this scene, a fellow unfortunate played by STROLL comforts her.

There was a long standing rumor about him (untrue) that he had become a porn actor; the fact that he appeared nude in a role back in the 70s didn't help squealch the tale !

The earliest of the famous rolling chairs were of course manually pushed; later models circa late 1940s onward had electric motors. They were a ball. These days they have manually pushed ones again- trying for nostalgia. Good fu*king luck !

Me too, me too !

STEEL PIER is still there of course but it's nothing like it once was. I remember being amazed at how much had been lost when it had a fire in 1969 (I think). It literally used to go about 3/4 of a mile out into the sea- til that fire anyway. After that, about 60% was lost and not rebuilt. To the direct south of the STEEL PIER was the STEEPLECHASE PIER which was dismantled in the ealry 1980s. It used to have a big entrance sign that said GEORGE TILYOU'S. Continuing to the south was the CENTRAL PIER which had the Sky Tower ride erected in 1966; the southernmost pier was MILLION DOLLAR PIER.

Now north of STEEL PIER was the GARDEN PIER which is still there and houses the Atlantic City Museum (no great shakes). The GARDEN PIER was always the 'art' pier. Concerts, art shows that kind of thing. When I was a kid directly across from the GARDEN PIER was the BREAKERS HOTEL and next to it THE ST. CHARLES. Now there's only an empty lot where both once stood. Sad, sad area.

There was another pier further north, THE HEINZ PIER. It was lost in the Hurricane of '44. THE HEINZ PIER houses HEINZ products, supposedly had a lovely view and had 'writing rooms' where folks would sit and write out their correspondence, postcards. I know that when I was a kid in the late 60s, early 70s that you could still see some of it's pylons protruding from the sea during low tide.


The MR. PEANUT costume now housed in the Atlantic City Museum on the GARDEN PIER. Back in the day the costume would have someone in it who'd parade outside of their store up across from the STEEL PIER who would try to draw potential customers inside. There would be loads of pigeons around and for 15 cents you could purchase a bag of nuts for the pigeons.
