Yeah, that's the one. He was Gay, and buried his lover (who had died of AIDS) in his plot, and had another one somewhere. The Coroner Dept went thru his paperwork and found he had a plot bought and paid for near family and some money (mostly change) laying around his house.

They showed him being buried where he wanted to be at the end.

Another Death-Hag documentary I can recommed is "Family Undertaking" - which shows families and friends attending to the dead at home, instead of using a Funeral Home.

Pretty graphic stuff - be warned!

You can rent it at Netflix - FYI.

Free Documentaries! YAY!

I'm a documentary fiend...

I would much rather watch a good documentary about something I'm interested in than a scripted movie about the same subject...it's just the way I've always been.

So in a search for free documentary movies, I found this site...And have watched quite a few of them already. There's some interesting stuff here for sure!

All the site does is compiles docs from youtube, google video, etc and lists them for people to watch. I haven't seen anything questionable on here, but of course watch at your own discretion.

I just thought I'd share.

I've got to head to work, but I just got done watching "This Film Has Not Yet Been Rated".

Really REALLY informative stuff...I get asked about the ratings on movies all the time at work, and now I know a little more to explain to my customers.

Glad everyone is enjoying it!

I also love documentaries. Thanks for the link.

Did anyone see the one about the kid who drew cartoons and became
a cult hero. But he had severe mental problems....he once took
the key out of his dad's plane and threw it out the window during flight...they
survived the crash landing. Does anyone know what movie
that was?

Also good:
American Dream
Grey Gardens
Crumb (of course!)

You are talking about the story of Daniel Johnston, pattykad. And the documentary you speak of is titled "The Devil & Daniel Johnston".

He released his own albums of his original songs that he recorded on a small tape recorder, and hand-drew the artwork for them as well. His most famous drawing was a little alien man and the words "Hi, How Are You?" which was the title of the album the art appeared on.

Daniel became an underground sensation after Kurt Cobain wore a Tshirt to an awards show with that image on it.

One of the musicians that I frequent the shows of, and had appear at my birthday party last year, Tony Lucca, performed a cover of one of Daniel's songs "Devil Town" for the soundtrack to the show "Friday Night Lights".

Here's Daniel's official website.

Yay, love me some docs!

The truth is always so much more effed up than a scripted movie.

Gator, which Jefe suggested (didn't see it there, but didn't look real hard) was EXCELLENT.

Documentaries

Any documentary fans here?

I just rented Girl 27 about a underage dancer who was raped by an MGM employee when she and over 100 other girls were brought in as entertainment at a MGM sponsored "stag party" in 1937.

Patricia Douglas tried to bring her case to the DA, Buron Fitts who was on the MGM payroll. When that didn't work she filed suit, for both the attack
and the fact that she and the other girls were told they would be performing in a musical number that was being filmed, not that they were party favors for a bunch of liquored up MGM salesmen.

The case went all the way to Federal Court but MGM managed to tamper with witnesses and evidence, and eventually settled the case out of court.

It was written and directed by David Stenn, best known for the book Bombshell: The Life and Death of Jean Harlow. He actually started researching Patricia's story while writing the book because the scandal was very close to the time of Harlow's death.

I thought it was really well done and heart breaking. MGM was truly like it's own country, they even had their own private police force.

Anyone see....Chris and Don: A Love Story? I watched it on Showtime the other night. Absolutely recommend it
Feature documentary on the life of artist Don Bachardy and his life-long relationship with writer Christopher Isherwood. Facinating story of a Gay Relationship that started I believe in the 1950's when things were much more hush hush. Also between a much older man and 18 year old Don Bachardy. Very much complimented each other as far as relationships go.
